The Premier of: "It's A Rumderful Life!" As Lived And Told By Cathy Bua: Chapter 1 "How To Guard Your Recipes And Aunt Grace's Chocolate Mousse" I appreciate all of you loyal friends of Cathy's Rum Cake Caterers who
have enjoyed my "Rumderful" Cakes and Party Catering. I thought I would like to thank you by sharing some of my
special recipes I have treasured through the years. I am going to start with my Aunt Grace's Chocolate Mousse Recipe. Aunt Grace was my father's - brother's wife. She was 4 feet 10 inches tall, and wore a size 4 1/2 shoe. She was always exquisitely
dressed for a party, and just as dolled up as when she was cooking around the house. Aunt Grace was one of my mentors in the
kitchen. The only problem was that if you asked for one of her recipes, she would always leave something out - so yours didn't
taste like hers! Except
for 2 of my favorite ones. One, I'm sharing with you - her chocolate mousse. Enjoy! Love, Cathy Aunt Grace Vaiana's Chocolate Mousse: Serves 6 Ingredients: 1 - 12 oz. package chocolate chips 1/4 cup sugar 1 1/4 cup hot milk 2-4
tablespoons brandy Preparation: Blend chocolate chips, sugar and brandy in a blender. Heat milk to boiling point. Add mixture to milk and mix until chocolate is melted. Pour into six saucer champage glasses (or whatever suits your party) and place
in the refrigerator to set. Add whipped cream to the top before serving. Note: This is a very rich and dense mousse. Fill glasses approximately one-half full.
* * * * "It's A Rumderful Life!" By Cathy Bua Chapter 2 "The Body Language Of Aprons And Nana's Cream Puffs!" I hear people talk about body language, and I know this
sounds crazy, but when I think of body language - I think of aprons. Why? I had a great life as a child. But, I never
realized that my family did not have a lot of money, because they were always hosting parties. A neighbor once said;
"If the cat has kittens, Fay (My Fabulous Mom) has to throw a party!" So, always being connected to Mom's side in her tiny kitchen, I became
obsessed with the different aprons she and my aunts would wear for different occasions. When Mom would clean or do a lot of
heavy cooking - it was the high-front wrap around apron that looked like a dress which completely covered her. The "Everyday"
Apron that Mom wore around the house was her "House Wife Uniform" - cute with a bib front. Then, there was the "Mother Of All Aprons" - The Apron that was stored
in her best dresser drawers, and came out when she was the diva at her own party! This was a dressier version of the "Everyday
Apron; just covering the front of the dress, so Mom could show off that pearl necklace and swooping backline of her dress.
Without a word said, when I saw what kind of Apron my Mom was wearing, I knew the agenda around house for that day and evening! By the 50's, when I got married - the social scene turned
from dinner hosting to cocktail parties. And, so changed the Apron. The cocktail party apron became a smaller version, as
you didn't want to cover too much of your spandex pants, and of course you wanted to accentuate your 4-inch,
ankle step in shoes! The "Breakfast Apron" was very sexy - sheer with or without puffs! Aprons Are My Body Language. Dessert Anyone? Time For Nana's Cream Puffs: Ingredients: 1 cup water 1/2 cup
oil Pinch of Salt 1 cup flour 4 eggs - room temperature Preparation: *Boil water
and oil with pinch of salt. *Soon as
it boils - take off burner and mix in flour - stir with wooden spoon. *Let mixture cool. When cooled - add 1 egg a time and stir. Note - If eggs are extra large,
then use only three eggs.
*Spread Parchment Paper in a Baking Pan. Spoon Mixture
onto Parchment Paper. For smaller Cream Puffs - use a tea spoon to dole out the mixture. For larger Cream Puffs use a table
spoon as a measuring guide.
*Space Mixture about an inch apart - giving the
dough room to grow as it bakes.
*Preheat Oven at 400 degrees for 15 minutes.
*Lower Oven to 350 degrees and Bake Dough for 6 minutes.
*When
you take Puffs out of oven - let stand for 5 minutes. Then slice a slit in top half of each puff to release hot air from the
inside. Let Cool.
*Fill with Custard, Or Cream Fruit. Note - Shells can
be used for Chicken Salad to be served at Tea!
*Eclairs are made from the same dough - just elongate
the length instead of round for Puffs.
*Eclairs can have custard filling with the sugar or chocolate
glaze on top. Puffs can be sprinkled with powdered sugar on top.
Enjoy!
* * * * "It's A Rumderful Life!" By Cathy Bua Chapter 3 "Cathy's Fantastic Recession-Proof Party Ideas And Uncle Jerry's Garlic Bread" Parties have always been my life, and with everything
so expensive today, people cannot entertain like they used to. You can still entertain! Remember these "Fantastic Recession-Proof
Party Ideas: * The Earlier The Party
- The Less Money You Spend On Food! - Example: What happened to the Coffees from 9:30 to 11:00 am? They were lots of fun!
Morning Coffee Menu: Mixed Muffins Marmalade and Strawberry Jam Butter Coffee
Cake Fruit Good Coffee - Regular and Decaf Iced Or Hot Tea Juice We called these
"Coffees" - "Get Togethers". The idea was to keep in touch, see our friends and still host a party without
spending a lot of money. This Morning Coffee Menu is perfect for a Board Meeting! There are scores of exciting variations of the "Morning Coffee!" Use
fun dishes in bright colors; neat napkins can be paper, and lean towards the casual side. Celebrate a season like Fall,
and make Banana and Pumpkin Bread. Cap off with Pomegranate Pizazz and Orange Spice Hot Tea. Always include a great coffee. Leaves and Apples on the table with a small wedge of Smoked
Gouda to serve with fresh apple slices. Light new, apple spice candles before your guests arrive and let them pick up on the
invigorating, Autumn mood. Light your candles on your kitchen island or kitchen table! My Uncle Jerry's Garlic Bread: My Uncle Jerry was one of my favorite Uncles. He was also an incredible cook! He gave me
on of his favorite garlic bread recipe. He would slice a loaf of French or Sour Dough Bread in half, and then apply his garlic
spread. Ingredients: 1 loaf of French or Sour Dough Bread 2 cups of mayonnaise 7 cloves of fresh garlic - chopped Parmesan Cheese - A Sprinkling Paprika - A Sprinkling Preparation: *Mix Chopped
Garlic with Mayo. Let set about an hour in refrigerator. *Spread on Bread. Sprinkle with grated Parmesan Cheese and a little Paprika *Place in Oven or Under Broiler until light brown. Voila! *Note - Spread can be kept in the refrigerator up to a week - also the spread
is great on sandwiches! Enjoy!
* * * * "It's A Rumderful Life!" By Cathy Bua Chapter 4 "The Ballad Of Ruby Rose And Fabulous Fall Foodie Fun!"
A very sweet, elderly lady ordered two half-sheet cakes to serve 100 people.
She stated her name was Ruby Rose, and that her party was in two weeks. Ruby wanted pink frosting roses; the writing was to
be the color of dusty rose, and the cakes to say: "Happy 100th Birthday Ruby Rose" Ruby said that she was going
to be very busy on the day of the party, so she paid for the cakes in full. The Saturday of Ruby Rose's party came, and at the end of the day, Ruby had not picked up
her cakes. I called the phone number on the order: "Hi, this is Cathy from Cathy's Rum Cake Caterers, and I have your
two cakes here - they were never picked up." The voice on the other end said: "I'm Ruby Rose and I never ordered
any cakes. I'm sorry." And she hung up. I
was so confused! I turned the order over and on the backside, my assistant Patty had written down the address of the party
site. Ruby said she would give the address in case she didn't have time to pick up the cakes, and have us deliver. The party
was starting at 7:00 pm. I started to panic. I was without a car; it was after hours - so there wasn't anyone readily available
to take the cakes to Ruby. Whatever I had to do, I was determined Ruby was getting her cakes! When in doubt, I could always
call "Mr. Rumcake" - Tony, my husband. Tony is a great sport, and has rescued me at least a thousand times in these
situations. To his irritation, he reminded me of this fact. I told him great - he should be used to it then; put the tv clicker
down - the football game will wait. The new litter of puppies will be fine, and get his big truck to the Chandler Cake Villa
-pronto! Tony pulled up to the shop,
a little edgy, wanting to know what the big rush was all about. I told him: "Just load the cakes and start driving -
I'll explain on the way over!" Now, when I am in this panic mode, Tony knows the best way to placate me - just do
what I say! When we pulled up to the
hall, there was a van with a band arriving, so I knew we were at the right place. As, I entered the banquet room with
Ruby's cakes, the caterer ran up to me. I told him: "I have the two cakes for Ruby Rose's 100th Birthday - she never
picked them up. So, I delivered them." "Don't
be angry" He replied, "She is a lovely lady, but she is 100 years old today, and she sometimes forgets - but
she still drives her car! Please understand - just yesterday she changed the entire menu." Great - I know I'm crazy - not yet! I said; "Well, I hope I didn't spoil
a surprise." The caterer smiled, "Oh no, Ruby ordered - my services, ordered the band, the decorations, rented
the hall, invited all 200 friends, and her cake - all on her own!" Suddenly, he looked puzzled, "What I can't
understand, she knows I bake cakes - why she didn't order her birthday cake from me?" I looked him right in the eye, thinking about what an incredible woman Ruby
is, and with all her grit, I replied: "Honey, Ruby Rose may be 100 and forgetful, but she still knows what she wants -
My Rum Cake!" Happy 100 Birthday
Ruby Rose - What an extraordinary honor it was to bake your birthday cakes! You are our Inspiration! You don't bake a cake everyday for a 100th party, and since we think Ruby Rose
is very special lady; we thought we would display a photo expose of cakes Ruby has seen throughout her long, rich life:

Yes, It's Time For The Food
Portion Of The Show - Fabulous Fall Foodie Fun! Fall is my favorite time of year. I don't know of it's the colors of the season; the beginning of a new season;
the foods, brisker weather and aromas - everything about fall is exciting to me! At this time of year, I think about
young moms having to cook or prepare food after a game or for a birthday party at home. I know food costs are through the
roof, so let me share a couple of fun and cost friendly menus: The Frito Bandito Ingredients: A Small
Bag of Fritos Your Favorite Chili
Recipe Shredded Cheddar Cheese Chopped Onions Tasty Options - Sour Cream Or Sliced Green Chilies Preparation:
*Heat Chili. * Cut bag of Fritos lengthwise. *Spoon heated Chili on top of Fritos in bag. *Top with cheese and onions (or with any of your favorite, tasty options). The Kids Love Them - Enjoy! This second fun recipe is something my mother used to serve us kids for parties
in the Fall - Stuffed Hot Dogs Ingredients: Hot Dogs American Cheese Mustard Bacon Preparation: *Slit
Hog Dog lengthwise. * Fill center with
mustard and a quarter slice of American Cheese. *
Wrap Hot Dog with a slice of thin bacon. *
Secure each end of the bacon with a toothpick. * Broil for a few minutes. Very Tasty Served With Baked Beans! Both of these menus are great to get the family or neighbors together to celebrate Fall outside by the fireplace.
Celebrating every Season makes your life so much better when you hear people laughing and talking - then you realize why you're
here! Enjoy!

Cathy's Rum Cake Caterers Stylist Cindy
Bua Celebrates A Very Special Birthday November
16, 2009 Cindy Bua celebrated her birthday
in style - her style, in the enchanting confines of The Hotel Del Coronado outside San Diego. It
was a well deserved treat for her, as she adds her artistic touch to Cathy's Rum Cake Caterers Designs for cakes,
table presentations and web designs. Enjoying perfect weather, Cindy started off the celebration in The Crown Room for Champagne
Brunch, and spent the rest of the time in whimsical leisure. There was sunset walks; wading along the shoreline; Shopping
for her ultimate present at the 1888 Store (Cindy proudly displays her gifts in the pictures below. When you are in The 1888
Store - ask for Pamela - She is a Sweetheart!) There is so much history at The Hotel Del Coronado that we also experienced
Intrigue and the Paranormal - thanks to Kate Morgan - which led to some Divine Inspiration, which gave us an unexpected
but empowering boost! Check out the dazzling optical illusion in the last picture of the series of the Crown Chandeliers in
the Crown Room floating off into infinity! Cindy
experienced everything "Rumderful", she might as well, as she is "Rumderful" to us! Enjoy the pictures!
P.S. If you see Kate Morgan anywhere in
the pictures, let us know - we wouldn't be surprised!
